Artist Bio
I am Terrence Burnett.
I was born in the beautiful South American country of Guyana.
As I migrated to the US as a pre-teen, I am heavily influenced by Guyanese/ West Indian, along with American cultures. This has given me a unique perspective of the world around me as an artist.
My influences artistically are diverse and complex from Kandinsky to Franz Marc, to Frieda Kahlo, to Aaron Douglas. My most prominent influence came from the studies I did at Howard University where I was fortunate to be able to study under the tutelage of the great sculptor Ed Love. His teachings inform most of my artistic endeavors and have also spurred me to share my knowledge and skill as a teacher of 15 years in the classroom.
In my work I strive to say something about the human condition from the perspective of a black man who celebrates the peoples, cultures, and the struggles of all the Americas, Caribbean and Africa. My work often fuses the beauty of nature with the sensuality of the human form using various mediums.
