Artist Bio
Dawn McDonald’s love of art has expressed itself in different forms at different points in her life. As a teenager, she played the role of fashion designer to her friends. She recently retired from a 40-year career in Software Engineering and returned to art, one of her original loves. During a 2-year break in her career in high tech, she forged into interior design, creating custom draperies and accent furniture. A couple decades later, she launched Natty Afriq, a fashion line that lives at the intersection of beauty and joy. Her contemporary designs exclusively use African fabrics. Her work has now grown to include multi-media art centered around the beautiful African fabrics she uses in her fashion design. Dawn’s artistic expressions celebrate her Guyanese birth and African ancestry.
A two-time graduate of Howard University, Washington DC, Dawn holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics and a Master’s in Computer Science. She and her husband now live in Coral Springs, Florida.
